Margarida Naves

Margarida Naves
BA (Hons) Photography // Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis ‘16

Margarida was born in Lisbon, where she gained her first degree in Industrial Design, followed by a Master’s in Interior Design. She then decided to move into photography – gaining a third degree in this area, in addition to completing several short courses in Paris and Lisbon, and also online.

“My work portrays a poetic vision of everyday life, where the imagery of the sensitive approaches the physical space and landscapes within the oneiric universe sphere.

My practice creates a dialogue where the real and the imaginary are combined, in an abstract or accurate form, giving place to a fictional nature and narrative.

The use of colour, as its consonance with the monochromatic, grant my work an intangible space, which I like to portray in the form of a graphic diary”.

Margarida briefly lived in Edinburgh, during which time her work became part of the Stills Centre for Photography’s collection. She also volunteered at the City Art Centre. Her experience prior to this includes a variety of design and photography roles.

She has undertaken residencies in Portugal, France and Iceland. She has also been involved in exhibitions in these countries, as well as in England.
