BA (Hons) Fine Art // Moray School of Art ’18
Suzie is an artist and designer from Edinburgh. Her inspirations include modern art, nature and geometry.
Working across drawing, printmaking and sculpture, she uses her imagination as a microscope to examine the cells and structures of our natural environment to create beautiful geometric drawings and installations. She enjoys studying the tiny, temporary and trodden species and spaces that play a vital part of our environment; sensitively highlighting their fragility and destruction by humans.
“For me, geometry and abstraction are my preferred ways to express the inner world of nature, its knowledge and its mystery. Culturally we tend to objectify and exploit our natural resources, forgetting the larger being of Nature that we are an intimate part of.
My Ever-True series was made during lockdown. With society in a state of stasis, my relationship with nature was heightened as an essential source of truth, inspiration and hope. These artworks are my expression of that connection”.
In the past, Suzie has exhibited her work at the Royal Scottish Academy and Embassy gallery in Edinburgh, in addition to a number of venues in the Highlands and Islands. Her recent achievements include receiving funding as part of the Visual Artist and Craft Makers Awards (2019), being selected for the RSA New Contemporaries exhibition (2018) and being shortlisted for the Visual Arts Scotland Graduate Showcase (2018). She is a founding member of Circus Artspace – an artist-led gallery initiative in Inverness.
