Vito is an Italian photographer and graphic designer currently living and working in Edinburgh. He previously studied at the European University of Design in Pescara.
This image is part of a project called Polluted Life, shot during the first stages of lockdown. This project aims to criticise the way we treat our bodies in order to feel accepted in the society we live in; a society that “pollutes the way we live and relate with other people”.
“I wanted to represent how people are affected by social media and how this can reflect on weak people and make them suffer. In my vision this ‘pain’ is represented as not real, only a mere piece of chip coming out from the eye, stating that we polluted our lives until they become eventually not real – a bunch of numbers, cables and microchips”.
Since moving to Scotland, Vito has found inspiration in its natural landscapes – shooting another recent project in Orkney, titled Scotland Fairy Tale. The project is the result of a desire to “show Scotland as if it was a part of a fairytale, trying to approach environmental photography in a non-classical way. I’ve always liked landscape photography, but I am generally attracted to unconventional approaches to photography, using a long exposure and low light condition I wanted to create something that looks magical and mysterious”.
Prior to living in Edinburgh, Vito worked as a Photographer and Graphic Artist in London. In addition to undertaking freelance projects, he currently works for several Edinburgh-based organisations.
